About Atlas

Who?
I am currently a senior at Florida State University. I am majoring in Computer Science and I currently work for PATLive as an entry-level software developer. I was born in Brazil, my parents are both Brazilians but my father's side has a fantastic Portuguese lineage and my mom's side is all Italian. I have moved around a lot as a kid, and now that I am 21 years old I yearn to one day revisit all the places I have lived and traveled to. You can say that ultimately that is the main inspiration behind creating this blog but there is much more. I am a nerd! I have Game of Thrones and Gears of War posters hanging on my wall, I play World of Warcraft and Magic the Gathering but my inner geek comes out mainly when food is involved. Travel gurus like Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern inspire me to become experts of differing cultures. Chefs like Alton Brown and Robert Irvine preach about the chemistry and professionalism that is involved with properly preparing a meal.

Why?
In 1873, French author Jules Verne told a breath-taking story about a man and a bet. That bet was for him to circumnavigate around our beloved planet in less than 80 days in a hot-air balloon. If he succeeded with the trip and brought evidence from each locale he visited, he would be awarded £20,000. This blog has been inspired by the novel but with a modern twist. I claim to travel around the culinary world, one dish per week. I am not waging any bets! This is simply something I have always wanted to do and is a great alternative to actually traveling since I am a year away from starting my career outside of academia.

How?
My blog-statement is "be as personal as possible". With that being said, I will be making each food that I post on here myself and I will tell you the pros, the cons, and any extra information I see fit to make your journey pleasant. I am not a chef and the only "food business" experience that I have was that I worked for 2 months at a Wendy's back in high school. With that being said, most of the dishes will be simple and doable!

Where?
Everything in this blog will be home-made. I will invite friends and family members to teach and cook with me!
